Additional information
This paper presents the first micromechanics study of fatigue crack tip characteristics in a polycrystalline material using Discrete Dislocation Dynamics. The results revealed, for the first time, that ratchetting is associated with microstructural changes, including dislocation accumulation, dislocation climb and dislocation-GB penetration, and dislocation climb is the dominant mechanism. The work offers a step closer towards developing a physical-based model for fatigue crack growth.
