Additional information

This work was recognised at the 20th Meeting of The Asian Society for Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery (2012, Indonesia), winning the prestigious Furuse Award. It tests and verifies our hypothesis that leaflet geometry with single attachment points (resembling the patient’s heart valve) in our patented stentless pericardial valve will improve mechanical performance. The result is significant as it asserts the importance of preserving native valve geometry for enhanced efficacy and durability. It forms the basis of clinically important works internationally (e.g. Auricchio, auricchio@unipv.it) for designing valve prosthesis/supporting pre-operative planning and subsequent study.
