Additional information

The title comes from the old Scot’s word for friend and companion. I think of this book as a companion to Red Dust Road. Some of the things that happened to me on the journey to and from Nigeria could only be written as poems. In this book I wanted to bring both sides of myself, the African and the Scottish side together linguistically. It is as much a search for a joining language as it is a search for the self, so Igbo words sit alongside old Scots ones, and Igbo myths interweave with Scottish ones. It is a collection of poems that tries to bring together what society often tries to separate asking the so called mixed race person to always choose. It is also an exploration of friendship, companionship and how the great friendships in life are as defining as DNA.
