Additional information

Although each author brought their own research interests to this paper (with Gieben-Gamal focusing on gender issues and literature on new media and communications technology in the urban environment and MacDonald focusing on aspects of philosophy and the psychology of space) they did so in a complimentary fashion. This article was based on autoethnographic research conducted by both authors and given the way such discourse frames and shapes the subject of enquiry it would be impossible to separate each of the authors’ contribution. The paper was published in IDEA, a peer reviewed Australian journal addressing interior design cultures.
