Configuration of SoA-based devices in virtual production cells
The research has enabled the adoption of autonomous, loosely coupled control devices simplifying the integration of modular production cells, and has created new production control methodologies for agile production processes. This work was undertaken in collaboration with Ford and Schneider Electric. Significant improvements in operational efficiency have been made possible via the adoption of this approach. The resultant DPWS-based services are in use on engine-line energy optimisation studies at Ford (leslie.lee@hssmi.org). Two patents (WO 2011138375 and WO 2010136561) filed by Schneider Electric have directly resulted from this work, and the related approach is being incorporated into Schneider products (armando.colombo@schneider-electric.com).
