Brown, a full time research officer, spent longer doing research in more sites than Beinart; Beinart supervised the work of three research assistants. We integrated material from all of the research sites in thematic chapters. The final text was written together in extended joint sessions with much of the analytical work and many passages being developed fresh in this context and every sentence subject to joint scrutiny and revision. The text is weighted a little to Brown’s research sites and, including both research and writing, Brown contributed 60% and Beinart 40%.
