Stochastic determination of entrainment risk in uniformly sized sediment beds at low transport stages: 2. Experiments
This paper presents a unique experimental data set containing detailed observations of grain entrainment and turbulence. This in combination with theory developed by the authors demonstrates that by treating sub-processes of the grain-fluid system statistically it is possible to predict time averaged and temporal fluctuations in sediment transport accurately. The lack of calibration indicates a general approach which is rare in sediment transport. This work was funded by the PARTS 235755 project and involved significant collaboration with researchers at the University of Padua. The results were used to support a recent successful EU application HYTECH 316546.
