Additional information

The Vulcan software has been developed progressively since 1990 to model the performance of steel and composite framed buildings in fire. It has played a significant part in the development of the discipline of performance-based structural fire engineering, which has allowed the top consultancies to perform rational analysis of buildings for the fire limit state. This is making inroads into the illogical prescriptive rules which still dominate in practice. This paper was the first of an extension to concrete-framed buildings, opening up the major remaining part of multi-storey construction, which dominates in much of the world.
