Additional information

This paper informs planning in river corridors for resilience to the urban heat island effect. Urban form and season was found to have a significant impact on local cooling from rivers. This is an important advance as previous studies have tended to simply quantify average cooling potential near rivers and provides design guidance for good bioclimatic design in river corridors. The research outcomes were selected for inclusion in `Science for Environment Policy', the European Commission's environmental news service.
