Strains under transient hygro-thermal states in concrete loaded in multiaxial compression and heated to 250 °C
Reported here is the first ever experimental study of transient thermal creep of concrete under multiaxial compression. This experimental study was funded by the UK Nuclear Industry and HSE, and later progressed to a large European project (FP5; Ref:FIKS-CT-2001-00186) on Modelling of Ageing Processes on Concrete Structures in Nuclear Power Plants, coordinated by Sheffield and included academic (Sheffield, Glasgow, Nantes, Prague, Rome and Padova), and industrial (British Energy) and governmental partners (UK-HSE). These results are currently used by the nuclear industry in development of models for simulating transient thermal creep in nuclear reactor vessels (Dr M. Johnston, EDF, michael.johnston@edf-energy.com).
