Additional information

This study identified Nrf2 as a key molecule in the flow-mediated protection of endothelial cells from activation leading to atherosclerosis. It has stimulated our group and others to test broccoli as a treatment for atherosclerosis, since broccoli contains compounds that affect Nrf2. Follow on funding: BHF programme grant (RG/11/13/29055, £750,000) to further study and validate genes related to sensing flow. This reseearch resulted in invitations to give 2 keynotes (FCVB, London 2012 and ESC, Istanbul 2009), one plenary (Artery, Ghent 2008), and 12 seminars.
