Additional information
This paper develops and validates the first method for evaluating properties of soils whilst in a state of elevated pore pressure. As a result, for the first time, the increase in coefficient of consolidation during liquefaction was quantified to be a factor of three. Since publication, further attempts to elucidate this behaviour (e.g. Haigh et al. (2012) Geotechnique, doi: 10.1680/geot.10.P.035; Wang et al. (2013), Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering, doi: 10.1016/j.soildyn.2013.02.018) have confirmed these findings.
