Additional information

This paper results from a three-year project which developed a new method to accommodate multi-routing in 3D space, and generated the European Patent EP1850252 filed in 2010. The work led to an on-going project supported by Caterpillar Inc on “Transportation network optimisation”. The proposed algorithm out-performed 24 other algorithms produced by 5 teams worldwide, including 3 teams using commercial software currently used at Caterpillar. The analysis and performance evaluation has been coordinated by Caterpillar. The algorithm is currently in the process of integration into the decision-making process for transportation network strategy at Caterpillar.
