Additional information

Wave Intensity Analysis (WIA) is a technique that allows for studying the cardio-arterial interaction, which is of clinical interest as it indicates ventricular contractility and arterial bed stiffness. WIA is traditionally calculated using invasive measurements, which excluded the technique being used as a bedside tool. In this paper we describe for the first time the determination of WIA using non-invasive measurements and the results highlighted the differences between men and women with age at two prominent arterial sites. This collaborative work with a well-established Belgian group brings WIA a step closer to it being used as a bedside investigation technique.
