Additional information

Compressed video is sensitive to channel errors and more so is 3D video where depth information is included in the stream. This paper uses multiple descriptions based on odd and even frames in order to transmit two descriptions of the 3D video. For only a small increase in bit rate, the side information is used to reconstruct the erroneous view when the other view is received error-free. The algorithm is now widely adopted in 3D video communications and is part of the error resilience suite in the 3D compatible release of AVC H.264.
