A mathematical model to study the dynamics of epithelial cellular networks.
<28>
This article results from collaboration with applied mathematicians at Berkeley and developmental biologists at Stanford. It was one of the few podium presentations at ICSB in 2010, the International Conference on Systems Biology, and represents the basis for a biological PNAS paper of which Abate is an author.
It develops a new experimentally-driven modelling framework for the mechanical properties and dynamical behaviour of large epithelial cellular networks. The resulting scalable model enables simulation of large network dynamics: the derived modelling framework in particular is tailored to study general dynamics (e.g., morphogenesis) of various classes of single-layered epithelial cellular networks.
