This paper describes the first phase of the work of an international collaboration conducting analysis of digital music recordings and publishing the results as linked data. At the time of writing the project had completed the prototype described in the paper, and subsequently several conference papers have been published with the results of the work. The paper is methodologically important as an exemplar both of data-driven research and also as a coming together of science and digital humanities techniques, reinforced in later papers which combine crowd-sourcing, supercomputing and linked data.
