HF propagation modeling within the polar ionosphere
A current major interest in the use of the HF band is for communications with civilian aircraft employing trans-polar routing, the use of which is rapidly increasing. The authors are major collaborators in an international project to improve HF communications with such aircraft (VHF and satellite communications are not available). Advances in propagation modelling and forecasting are under-pinning aspects of this work. This paper proposed radically different techniques to address this problem. Current Leicester funding by EPSRC (EP/K008781/1, £347k).
