Additional information

<20>Published in the leading Information Visualisation journal this paper was the first to conclusively establish that the common approach of animating graph layouts to show changes is not in fact as effective as was previously believed. The efficiency of animated displays versus static displays is repeatedly studied with overview- and micro-level analytical tasks. Results show static representations are generally more effective, particularly in terms of time performance. The studies here are thorough, exhaustive and their accuracy is verified through repeated evaluation in local and remote participant studies. This was one of the top-ten downloaded papers from this journal in 2011.
