The theme 'On Training' was intended as an intervention into received discourses around theatre training. I conceived and shaped the volume, sequencing the essays and collaborating on the images. I initiated specific commissions such as that on sports training. I wrote the full-length lead essay, ‘The Institution of Training’ (pp5-15) and 90% of the short Introductory essay. I editorially reviewed all of the essays, re-shaping the arguments of some and sub-editing others for matters of expression and syntax. The collection deliberately challenges conventional notions of research on theatre training in terms of both its history and practices.
