The use of the triptycene framework for observing O⋯C=O molecular interactions
This work, part of a project funded by the Physical Organic Chemistry Initiative of EPSRC (EP/E018203/1) for collaboration between Wallis (PI, NTU), Hursthouse/Coles (Southampton, EPSRC National Crystallographic Service) and Smith/Hanna (Warwick, solid state NMR), describes the use of the triptycene skeleton for observing interactions between functional groups and its superiority to the peri-naphthalene system. The article was rated a "Hot Paper" by CrysEngComm. Combinations of crystallographic, solid-state NMR and DFT simulations have now been published from this project (Org. Biomolec. Chem., 2012, 10, 7763-79; CrystEngComm., 2013, 15, 8823-8839).
