<22>The pump scheduling problem is solved using Ant colony optimisation with pumping cost as the objective. It identifies the most economical pump schedule while reducing the pump maintenance costs. A new representation for pump scheduling was developed. The proposed representation significantly reduces the search space and improves the convergence rate of the search algorithm. Application of this model to real networks demonstrated the advantage of using this approach. The proposed model reduced the computational time due to reduced search space, making real-time optimal pump scheduling a possibility.
