Additional information

<02>This work was patented by Salford University WO 2007052018. Defra awarded the Grail Robot project FT1547A (AFM249) to Sheffield University who subcontracted to the Italian Institute of Technology and Davies was the principle investigator. The end effector from this paper was used with the robot for the industrial demonstration. As a result of this paper we were asked to provide a chapter titled “Automation in Food Processing” for the Springer Handbook of Automation 2009. As an indication of its impact, the paper has been cited over 40 times and the approach used in other food and non-food applications.
