Double-weighted statement

Makeover Nation is a reinterpretation of US national life from the perspective of the makeover. It traces this term’s peculiar origins during the Civil War and subsequent intersection with the development of psychology and associated disciplines and the creation and cultivation of the category of youth. The book looks at how makeover discourse relates to changes in patterns of immigration and economic health, drawing on work done right across the human and medical sciences. The research involved textual, ethnographic, archival, historical, and statistical research. It is also the outcome of twenty years observing US life.
