That's the story of my life: Daily photography as a reflexive practice
The chapter explores the practice of daily photography with particularly attention to the users of the website Blipfoto.com. The chapter argues that through daily photography individuals engage with the practice of photography and that reflexive amateurs (critical, self conscious, creative and goal oriented) propose new models of vernacular creativity and personal photography in the digital age. New research was carried out with site users to develop the themes of the chapter. A questionnaire was devised to investigate how Blipfoto users started daily photography, how and why they continued and what they felt they had achieved through their endeavours. Further questions sought more in-depth responses regarding the types of images they took, how much they considered the audience for their work and how far their interactions with other Blipfoto users contributed to their experience. The forum enabled open responses to the questionnaire with many giving lengthy and detailed responses to the questions. This research offers new perspectives on amateur photographic practices and contributes to wider debates on the culture of digital photography.
