Structural Insights into Substrate Specificity and the anti β-Elimination Mechanism of Pectate Lyase

This study targeted a protein involved in a destructive disease of fruits and vegetables worldwide, resulting from a successful application (2008) for a joint studentship to the Institut Laue Langevin and Queen Mary U. London (contact M.C. Muller, mcmuller@ill.fr). The genes identified in the work described were used to design biotechnological applications (see citation by Zhand et al. 2013, Biotechnology Journal). The results further contributed to elucidate mechanisms for similar proteins (see Jensen et al. 2010, J. Molecular Biology for example). This work led to an invitation for a contribution to Neutron News (Teixeira, S. 2012, Vol.23 (2)).
