Additional information

The authors propose the first fully 3D model of a cell under blast loading with differentiated cell-structures. It captures successfully some of the intrinsic characteristics of neuron deformation under blast loading and suggests that nucleus membrane might be subject to damage in a similar manner as the widely reported cell membrane damage under such loading. Such information, inaccessible with such precision through experimental means, provides a whole new set of data available to experimentalists. This work has been the basis of a Dr Jerusalem's successful ERC Starting Grant proposal, consisting of a development campaign for this new category of models.
