Additional information

The paper demonstrates the API-RP2A design rules for framed offshore structures are conservative, with over-prediction of extreme loading in waves and current. This is relevant to the re-assessment of existing fixed structures around the world, of concern to regulators and operators as their assets age, and for the design of compliant towers in up to 1km of water. This work is being continued with the National University of Singapore, with support from industry: McDermott International in Houston and BP in the UK (contact details available).
