Additional information

This paper studies the influence of acceleration and braking on the stability of the bicycle. While this topic is of interest in its own right, this research was motivated by a stability problem being encountered by a European MotoGP racing motorcycle manufacturer. In contrast to most bicycle dynamics studies, the flexibility of the vehicle’s frame and the dynamic properties of the road tyres are studied. This work was followed up with a detailed motorcycle study conducted in collaboration with Ducati Corse. (The authors are listed in alphabetical order; ASME J.
