This paper points out the benefit of using online feedback control within manufacturing processes. The research arose from collaborative work with the Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridge and led to the award of a grant for a project (EP/K018108/1) under the call for Flexible and Reconfigurable Manufacturing Systems, which forms part of EPSRC’s focus on Innovative Production Processes. The project is developing feedback control systems for improving the accuracy and product quality of a range of new manufacturing processes.
