Additional information

Switching in the optical layer has the potential to utilize the physical network infrastructure far more efficiently than is currently done, this paper represents the first demonstration of physically realisable DSP for the implementation of a 112Gb/s coherent burst mode receiver, essential to implement switching. Previous work in this area used offline serial DSP, which cannot be physically implemented at rates that are fast enough to be compatible with the next generation 112Gb/s systems. Discussion with Intune Networks (http://www.intunenetworks.com) to transfer this technology as an upgrade route to their existing 10Gb/s optically switched network is ongoing.
