This paper reports the first observation of light emission from a single layer of MoS2, a novel 2 dimensional semiconductor which is an exciting new material for optoelectronics. The work was the subject of an Invited talk at the Graphene Nanophotonics Conference, Spain, March 2013 (http://benasque.org/2013nanophot/cgi-bin/talks/allprint.pl). This work has also received attention in the media via news reports on nanotechweb.org and physicsworld.com.
