Additional information

This paper received the Distinguished Paper Prize from the Combustion Institute for the best contribution in the Spray Colloquium of the 32nd International Symposium on Combustion. It showed, for the first time with simulations, what determines the success or otherwise of a spark ignition in a turbulent spray, a phenomenon of great importance for the gas turbine industry. The fundamental results of this paper have contributed to the development of models of spark ignition that have been delivered to industry (Rolls-Royce, Dr Simon Stow, ID_in_audit_file@Rolls-Royce.com)
