Additional information

<15>This article illustrates how assembly systems could become self-organising and more autonomous by using local intelligence. Hence, it contributes to the progress of both factory automation and software engineering. It leads the way towards creating systems that are more autonomous and proactive in their behaviours, work of notable interest to researchers in self-learning production systems, dependable automation, distributed control, as well as distributed agent networks and knowledge based factory engineering. The work has also led to a Fellowship for Frei from the Swiss National Science Foundation (ref: PBSKP2_130507).
