The Blood Never Dried: A people's history of the British Empire
The Blood Never Dried (2000) revealed a neglected history of British repression and resistance, an empire where 'the blood never dried.' This edition’s new introduction and conclusion extend the research from Blair/Bush to Cameron/Obama, concentrating on British military experiences in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Arab Spring. Newsinger exploits substantial new sources, especially press and service/diplomatic memoirs. His new sections explore fresh historiographical and historical developments, and continue a robust dialogue about the nature of empire. They draw attention to a revolution in military history regarding the nature of British insurgency — one in which Newsinger’s earlier works have been important.
