Additional information

This chapter comprises a collection of some of the most important, indicative, and influential articles on classical and romantic performing practice undertaken in the last twenty-five years. My chapter, ‘Style and Sonority in Wagner String Performance’, appeared originally as a peer-reviewed article in The Wagner Journal, Volume 3 (2009). The work presents a focused examination of an important aspect of nineteenth-century performing practice little considered in other scholarly literature. In addition, my contribution as editor included a substantial introduction (xi – xxxii, ca. 12,000 words), which aims to set the discipline in context in the last quarter century and act as a review article on the contents of this book.
