Based on the keynote given when awarded an honorary doctorate at the University of Oslo for my work on relational expertise and relational agency. The article explains the additional concept of common knowledge and its role in mediating the exercise of relational expertise. It was placed after refereeing in the founding issue of a new journal as an exemplar of the kinds of papers welcomed by the journal.
