Examination of the suspended sediment concentration formulae using full-scale rippled bed and sheet flow data
It must be questioned how well existing theoretical models describe sediment suspension phenomenon accurately in coastal waters. Sediment transport in real seas occurs primarily due to the suspension mechanism. The paper discusses a parametric study on deducing a set of suspended sediment concentration models from the first author’s previous research work, which can be used to quantify the cross-shore sediment transport in coastal waters. This quantification plays an important role when coastal structures are designed and beach nourishment schemes are introduced. Therefore, this work will be directly beneficial to coastal engineers and also related policy and decision makers.
