Additional information

The light output from the electroluminescent device reported here is a very deep blue, close to the National Television System Committee (NTSC) standard blue co-ordinates. Moreover, the new molecule can be incorporated into a simple (e.g. low cost) and efficient (over 4%) device architecture. There are very few literature reports of this type of emission that achieve efficiency values > 1 %. In the paper by Zhu et al., J. Phys. Chem. C, 115 (2011) 17965, it is noted that the efficiency of our blue devices are among the highest reported.
