The kinematically admissible velocity fields presented in this paper have led to the development of a numerical framework for assessing soil strength using a T-bar (see Klar & Shmulik, 2010, DOI: 10.1002/nag.836). This method will have a potential application in offshore site investigation (see Randolph (2012), Keynote Lecture, GeoCongress 2012, http://dx.doi.org/10.1061/9780784412138.0010).
