This publication was ground-breaking because it was the first photo essay accepted as a full paper at an international conference in the field of human computer interaction (HCI). However, even higher recognition has come from the world-leading Designing Interactive Systems 2014 conference (accredited by the Association of Computing Machinery). First, this new paper format has been introduced and, second, Jarvis is invited to co-chair ‘Pictorials’ which will for the first time invite visual documentation (such as a photo essay) in an HCI or design conference proceeding, offering an academic format drawing from the discipline itself rather than borrowing from others.
