Additional information

This book addresses the girl as an important but overlooked figure in the work of many contemporary women artists. The essays discuss girlhood and the girl as identities that go beyond a particular age group – re-working notions from social movements such as riot grrrl, psychoanalytic concepts of adolescence and the implications of girls and girlish identities for feminist representation and spectatorship. Drawing on the emerging field of girl studies, as well as feminist and queer theories, this collection is the first attempt to map out the significance for the figure of the girl in contemporary art in an academic context.
