Double-weighted statement

A critical edition of a dramatic oratorio in English for five solo voices, chorus and orchestra. The score runs to 312 pages and takes about three hours to perform. Besides the first performance edition the volume also includes earlier drafts, later revisions and substitutions. Every discrepancy between the verbal and musical texts transmitted by the source librettos and scores was collated and analysed, to establish the sequence (and ideally the date) of composition and revision. The introduction to the oratorio and the edition is virtually an article in its own right (roughly 12,000 words).
