Additional information

The research reported in this paper established a new, multi-disciplinary methodology for studying gas diffusion performance in fuel cells. We enhanced the traditional lattice Boltzmann numerical model to study the gas diffusion mechanisms by equipping with real-world sub-micron structures obtained from X-Ray tomography. This revealed the relationships between material structure and fuel cell performance. The results formed design guidelines for a next generation gas diffusion layer by Technical Fibre Products and, as a result of the work, Chen was invited to give a lecture at Beihang University in 2012 and received an Adjunct Professorship at Tianjin University, both in China.
