Additional information

<26> IEEE TMI is a leading journal in computer science and interdisciplinary applications. This paper reports on research conducted under a two-year Research Fellowship in telemedicine applications, supported by NSERC Canada. With approximately 800 downloads since 2011, this paper presents a novel 3-D scalable compression method for medical images with optimised volume of interest (VOI) coding. The approach outperforms state-of-the-art 3-D JPEG2000 schemes and the coding principles introduced in this paper are being applied by Serra-Sagrista’s Group at AU Barcelona to code microCT images.
