The infanticide controversy : primatology and the art of field science
This 100,000 word monograph is an output of substantially extended scale and scope. Based on five years of intensive work, and funded by the British Academy, it involved substantial primary and secondary research, as well as travel throughout the USA and UK. The author conducted 36 face to face interviews with international scientists, and personally transcribed 22 of these for analysis (the confidential nature meant that not all were willing to go on record). This was accompanied by extensive scrutiny of secondary sources including the intensive examination of the complete publication runs of all three primary primatological journals (1963-2002).
