Additional information

This paper reports the highest frame-rate time-resolved, single-photon camera. Edinburgh led the system design of this integrated circuit (e.charbon@tudeflt.nl) in the five-partner EU FP6 project (www.megaframe.eu). A follow-on £640k BB/I022074/1 multi-disciplinary applications project with King’s College reduced the camera’s scan time in two-photon microscopy from many minutes to 10 seconds, contributing to better understanding of dynamic cancer mechanisms in cells (DoI:10.1117/12.2004199). Further projects are applying this technology: EPSRC (EP/K03197X/1, £11.5M), STFC (ST/K006584/1, £210k), and a £2.1M ERC Advanced Grant (TOTALPHOTON) starting in February 2014. A knowledge transfer grant (Tom.Higgison@ed.ac.uk) is funding the preparation for a spin-out company.
