This paper reports part of a programme to identify the biological and clinical effects of gum arabic in animals and humans. It specifically seeks to understand the recognised anti-obesity properties of gum arabic as a dietary fibre. The results show that GA in drinking water improved age-dependent fat deposition and muscle reduction in female mice at middle age.
