Additional information

Voltage source inverters are widely used to drive motors efficiently in transport applications. Paper describes simple technique that characterises and compensates for non-linearities introduced by need to have dead-time when using insulated-gate bipolar transistors. This practical novel scheme is simple enough to be implemented in real time with 3-phase machines and applied in parallel to provide sensorless position-detection scheme. Company sponsoring work have applied techniques to identify applications for future implementation, which are now being developed [see audit file].
