A hybrid heuristic ordering and variable neighbourhood search for the nurse rostering problem
<22> This paper presents the research outcomes from an industrial collaboration with Dr Gerhard Post at ORTEC, The Netherlands, supported by an EPSRC-funded research project. The resulting methods developed are highly efficient and effective for solving real-world nurse rostering problems faced by different hospital wards in Europe, and has been successfully embedded in HARMONY, the commercial workforce scheduling software at ORTEC. The paper has attracted a large amount of research attention in the area and is ranked in the top 10% cited papers in Computer Science by ISI Essential Science Indicators. The journal has a 5-year impact factor of 2.524.
